When I start out planning a new structure, I design
the buildings with as many different elevations and separate additions that I can to make them functional and pleasing to
the eye. All the museum quality structures are built exactly as any
full size buildings. The foundation stone is laid-up one at a time and mortared in. The walls are constructed
of precision milled scale basswood lumber. The windows and doors are by Grandt Line. Roofing materials are furnished
by Builders-in- Scale. The many castings used are supplied by Berkshire Valley, Model Tech Studios, Clover House, Rusty
Rail and Hamm River Model Products. All structures are built on three-sixteenth
board for easy installation on your layout. The buildings are then shipped in padded double boxed containers that are
sized for each building. I am not building prototype structures,
but creating my own designs and the ideas of the client. This way I can make everyone's dreams come to life in a small
way. As new buildings are finished, the photos will be added to the website. All
the buildings are modeled in the 30's and 40's era and I build them to look as old as possible.
I go to great lengths to construct these buildings crooked and out of square. The porches and loading docks are always
sagging and leaning and the main building walls are out of plum as much as one-quarter of an inch. The paint, weathering and signage are installed
as per client request. Cedarhill Designs also specializes in custom building in unusual locations such as steep hillsides
and/or canyons etc.
